PRIMARY_APPT_SAA_INDEX

Definition:

This field is not used; it was superceded by PRIMARY_APPT_INDEX before any HR-BAIRS queries or reports utilized it. The definition that follows is for archival purposes only.

An index field used for sorting multiple appointments held by a single employee in order to determine which is to be considered primary, using an algorithm specific to Affirmative Action data analysis for staff employees.

This field appears only the Data Warehouse; it does not appear in the HRMS application.

The PRIMARY_APPT_SAA_INDEX is only calculated for job rows with EMPL_STATUS values of A, L, or P (Active or on Leave); appointment types 1, 2, and 7 (Contract, Career, and Partial-Year Career); and for which there is at least one Earnings Distribution row with an ERN_CD (Earnings Code) other than WOS (without salary).

From among multiple job rows effective on a specified date (i.e., the latest effective dated and sequenced row on or earlier than the specified date), the index is constructed so that the row with the maximum value will be the Primary Appointment.

The algorithm embodied in the index specifies that from the multiple job rows described in the preceding paragraph, the primary appointment for staff Affirmative Action reporting purposes is identified by applying the following selection rules in sequence until only one job remains:

  • select the job(s) with the highest FTE

  • select the job(s) with the highest salary range maximum

  • select the job(s) with the lowest-numbered job group

  • select the job(s) with the earliest start date

  • select the job with the lowest EMPL_RCD_NO

Note that the last selection rule has no functional meaning, and is included only in order to force selection of a single row if the preceding criteria do not result in identification of a single primary appointment.
